Schloss Fuschl: In July 2026 I accompanied E & P on her wedding at Rosewood Schloss Fuschl. Three days, 120 guests, a traditional costume welcome day, a wedding ceremony in the church, a getting ready session in the Kaiser Franz Joseph Suite, a beach day on the Fuschlsee To conclude, and as a bonus, here is a weather that one could only wish for in the Salzkammergut region. Anyone who has ever been married in the Alps knows that this is not a given.

This post has two parts. In the first part, I’ll tell you about the wedding of E & P and how a wedding at Schloss Fuschl feels from a photographer’s perspective. In the second part, you’ll find everything you need to know about getting married at Schloss Fuschl: what rooms are available, how many guests the castle can accommodate, what season is best, what legal requirements you need to follow, and which places are suitable for couple photos.
I am writing this as Photographer, which has increased in recent years has accompanied over 100 weddings, at least 40 of them in Italy and many more in Austria, Spain, France, England, Ireland, Mexico and Germany. Many of these took place on lakes, in castles and in historic hotels. So I know what such places are good at and where they reach their limits. And because I want to be honest with you, I will also say at the end for whom a wedding at Schloss Fuschl is not the right choice.
The Fuschl Castle: Sis's castle on the Fuschlsee

From the Archbishop's hunting castle to the Rosewood Hotel
The Fuschl Castle has a long history. It was built in the 13th century. 1461: A hunting lodge of the Archbishop of Salzburg Built in 1947, it was first converted into a hotel and is today run by Rosewood. You can feel these centuries everywhere: in the thick walls, the wooden ceilings and the deep window sills overlooking the water. None of this is a backdrop.
The renovation did not smooth over the history. The design offices G.A. Group and Bauer Stahl have arranged the rooms around the Austrian flora and fauna. For photos, this is a gift because they get rooms with character instead of interchangeable hotel rooms. The house reopened in the summer of 2024, becoming the second Rosewood hotel in Austria and the seventh in Europe. It has 98 rooms, including 42 suites and six chalets. For anyone looking for a wedding location in Salzburg with a real story, this is exactly what they’re looking for.
Why they call it the „Sissi Castle“
Many guests are familiar with this. Fuschl Castle, Without knowing it. Romy Schneider was one of the famous guests of the house, and Their Sissi trilogy was partly filmed in Schloss Fuschl. This connection lives on in the house to this day: in the Sisi Tea Salon, the Sisi Pavilion and the houses named after Empress Elisabeth and Kaiser Franz Joseph. So to get married at Schloss Fuschl also means to celebrate at Sissi’s castle, and for guests from abroad this story is a nice conversation piece at the Welcome Dinner.

Location: A wedding venue near Salzburg on the Fuschlsee
The castle is located in Hof near Salzburg on a small peninsula on the Fuschlsee lake, in the middle of the Salzkammergut region. As a wedding location in Salzburg, it combines castle atmosphere and scenery in a way that you hardly find a second time in the region. From the Salzburg Main Station, you need a car. only about 20 minutes, And yet the city and the sea seem like two separate worlds. It takes about 29 minutes to drive to the Salzburg airport, and about 11 minutes to the Wolfgangsee.
For a wedding at Schloss Fuschl with international guests, this is a major advantage. Guests from Munich arrive in about two hours, while guests from Vienna, Zurich or Frankfurt arrive comfortably by train or plane to Salzburg. At many of my weddings in Italy, older guests arrive exhausted after long transfers by ferry or minibus. On Fuschlsee, that is hardly an issue.
Wedding at Schloss Fuschl: E & P in July 2026
Before I tell you about the three days, a note first: In the pictures in this post you don't see any people. E & P and many of their guests place great value on privacy, and I of course respect that. The photos of their wedding belong to them and their families, not the internet. Instead, I show you the castle, the rooms, the details, and the lake as I experienced them on these three days, and I tell you the rest in words.
Discretion is not a special request for me; it is part of my work. Many of my couples choose to not publish their photos at all or only select a few. This is especially common when weddings take place in places like Schloss Fuschl, where families with well-known names or guests with public offices celebrate. For me, this is always okay. You decide what part of your day will be made public, And I stick to that on my website, on Instagram, and in every conversation I have with other couples.
Day 1: Welcome Day in Tracht
E & P have started their wedding with a welcome day, where the guests came in traditional costumes. I love this idea. The Tracht fits into the landscape of the Salzkammergut like hardly anything else., And it changes the mood of an evening. The guests don’t come in suits and cocktail dresses, but in dirndls and leather trousers. This loosens up, creates conversation material, and brings together guests who didn’t know each other before.

For me as a photographer, this means colors, fabrics, and details that perfectly match the lake, the wood, and the old walls. In the E&P gallery, the pictures from the Welcome Day therefore have a very special character and do not look like another dinner. I usually spend two to three hours accompanying the Welcome Day. It is often the evening when the most beautiful candid shots are taken., Because no program is in place yet and everyone is simply happy to be there. When two families meet for the first time, moments happen here that would be lost in the chaos on the wedding day.
My tip if you are also thinking about a costume evening: Let your guests know in advance, Ideally, with the Save-the-Date card or on your wedding website. Guests from abroad rarely have a traditional costume in their closet. In Salzburg, there are shops that sell or rent traditional costumes, and a brief mention of this will save you from many questions. It should be an invitation, not a requirement. If someone does not want to wear a traditional costume, they should still feel welcome.
Day 2: Getting Ready in the Kaiser-Franz-Joseph Suite

On the wedding day, everything began in the Kaiser Franz Joseph Suite. It is about 120 square meters in size, And for a getting ready session, this place is worth gold. Hair & makeup, bridesmaids, family and I had plenty of space without it getting cramped or hectic.
This is an underestimated aspect of Getting Ready. Eight people in a room of 30 square meters appear cramped in photos, even though it feels cheerful at the moment. In a large suite with many windows, however, I have uniform, soft daylight and can move freely. This creates calm images: the dress by the window, a mother closing the last button, a glance in the mirror just before it starts.
My advice to you: Ask the hotel in advance which suite is available for your getting ready and book it immediately. The large suites are limited and quickly booked up during the summer weekends. If you are going to be separated for two on a summer weekend, plan a separate room with good lighting for each of you so that I can go in and out between the two without one of you feeling left out.
The wedding ceremony in the church
E&P have decided on a church wedding. Many couples think of a free wedding on the lake when they get married at Schloss Fuschl. However, a church wedding is a beautiful alternative, especially if faith or family tradition are important to you. And it has a practical advantage: A church is weather-independent. You don't need a Plan B for the wedding itself.
Planning a wedding outside the castle involves mainly logistics. Guests have to travel to the church and back, and with 120 people that’s not an easy task. Plan for generous buffer time. In my experience, between the end of the wedding and the start of the reception, it takes about an hour. at least 30 to 45 minutes, Until everyone has congratulated you, entered the room and returned. This time is wonderful to spend together for a brief moment before returning to your guests.
For photos in churches, there is also something that many couples don’t know: priests often have their own rules regarding where photographers are allowed to move during the wedding ceremony. Some do not allow flash photography, while others do not allow photos from the altar area. Please clarify this with your priest beforehand. I work in churches mostly without flash and as discreetly as possible. (Sometimes it is not possible to work without a flash).

Perfect summer weather and aerial photos
We were very lucky: The weather was perfect. In July, that means long evenings in the Salzkammergut, warm light over the water and a Golden Hour that feels like it never ends.
I also worked with the drone at this wedding. I have a drone pilot's license; my drone is registered in the EU, And I clear up every flight in advance with the hotel and the applicable Austrian regulations. I don’t fly in strong winds, and I never fly directly over groups of people. The castle on its peninsula, surrounded by turquoise water, is one of the most impressive sights I have ever photographed from the air. Such photographs are among the images that couples hang on the wall most often.

Dinner and party with 120 guests

With 120 guests, E & P made good use of the castle's facilities, and I saw that A wedding at Schloss Fuschl also works well with many guests if the planning is right. That everything went so smoothly was due, not least, to Planner Daniela Kainz, who coordinated the entire three-day event. With a wedding of this size, with the wedding taking place outside the hotel and a program over three days, An experienced planner does not impose restrictions, but provides the foundation for a relaxed day. For me as a photographer, that means: I don’t have to organize anything, I don’t have to look for the bridal bouquet, and I don’t have to gather the guests together. I can simply observe and photograph.

On the wedding day itself, I am usually ten to twelve hours From getting ready to the party. This way you get to experience not only the big moments, but also everything in between: the conversations over the aperitif, the laughter during the speeches, the dance floor that gradually fills up.

Day 3: Beach Day at Fuschlsee
The finale was a beach day on Fuschlsee. After two intense days, this is exactly what you need: no program, no dress code, just sun, water and the people you love. The hotel has the perfect infrastructure for this, because The castle also has its own beach club, along with the Lake Club.. There you can find fish from the Fuschlsee, and you can enjoy the view of the Alps from a cabana on the shore.
Photographically, the last day is often my favorite. Everyone is relaxed, the excitement has passed, and images are emerging that look completely different from those of the wedding day: guests jumping from the bridge into the water, children on the shore, grandparents in the shade, friends telling each other the stories of the previous night. I usually spend two to three hours accompanying such a final day.
My tip: If you plan a beach day, Tell your guests in time that they should pack their bathing gear. That sounds trivial, but in my experience, it’s the guests themselves who forget about it – and then they’d rather be in the water. And they plan to set up a shady spot because in July the sun can get very strong on the lake.

The rooms for your wedding at Schloss Fuschl
For a wedding location near Salzburg, Schloss Fuschl offers an astonishing number of event spaces that can be combined well. The capacities come from the Official event page of the hotel.
Free wedding ceremony on the lake
If you don’t want to get married in church, a free wedding ceremony on the water is the obvious alternative. The hotel offers both small ceremonies on the lakeside and large celebrations with views of the Alps. Water reflects light, the mountains give depth, and the landscape already creates the perfect setting for the ceremony. Therefore, keep the decoration deliberately restrained. Everything that competes with the lake loses.
When having a wedding outdoors, be mindful of the time. A wedding at 12 p.m. in July means harsh light from above, shadows under the eyes, and guests sweating in the sun. A wedding ceremony in the later afternoon provides softer light and leads directly into the Golden Hour.
Ballroom, Glass Salon and Pink Salon
The ballroom is 107 square meters and up to 100 guests The classic space for a festive dinner. The glass salon seats up to 60 guests on 96 square meters and is suitable for smaller weddings or as a space for aperitif and dessert. The pink salon offers space for up to 30 guests on 47 square meters and is suitable for a dinner in a smaller circle or a welcome dinner.
A practical tip: Maximum capacities are usually calculated for standing receptions or dense seating arrangements. Industry reports indicate that for a banquet up to 80 people are expected, and for a reception up to 120. As soon as they plan a dance floor, a band, or round tables with generous spacing, the number shrinks. Always ask the hotel for a concrete seating plan for your guest number before you sign anything.
The draw
The room is 193 square meters and Up to 180 guests in the largest room. It is especially important for larger weddings and as an alternative in bad weather. Even though we had perfect weather at E & P: in the Salzkammergut, thunderstorms often develop quickly in the afternoon in summer. Therefore, from the very beginning, plan for a full-fledged Plan B, not a last-resort solution. A good plan B is a space where you would also like to celebrate in the sunshine.
See Club Event Deck, Wine Cellar and Sisi Pavilion
The Event Deck at See Club can accommodate up to 60 guests and is perfect for an aperitif or a farewell day like the Beach Day organized by E & P. The wine cellar has space for up to 30 guests on 60 square meters and is perfect for a welcome dinner or a wine tasting. The Sisi Pavilion is the most intimate space for up to ten guests, ideal for an elopement or a dinner with just the parents.
How many guests can the Schloss Fuschl accommodate?
The wedding of E & P showed me that the castle works well with 120 guests, especially when the wedding takes place in a church and the hotel doesn’t have to handle all the program elements itself. In my opinion, a wedding at Schloss Fuschl is most relaxed with 30 to 120 guests. In this area, a large number of guests can stay in the house, and the weekend feels like a private celebration.
For under 30 guests, the castle becomes a wonderful location for small weddings and elopements. I would be cautious with about 150 guests. The manor house can accommodate up to 180 people, but then not all the guests stay in the castle; they need shuttles from surrounding hotels, and the intimate atmosphere that makes the house special is somewhat lost.
The best time of year to get married at Schloss Fuschl
May and June
In the spring the meadows are a deep green color, sometimes there is still snow on the peaks, and the light is clear. The temperatures are pleasant. The weather is unpredictable for that reason., And regent days are not uncommon.
July and August
In the height of summer you have the longest days, warm evenings and water temperatures where a beach day like at E&P is really fun. At the same time it is the peak season, and the Salzburg Festival takes place. Hotels in the region are then more expensive and quickly booked out. Anyone who wants to get married in the summer should plan ahead.
September und Oktober
Late summer and early autumn have their own charm. The light gets warmer, the forests are changing color, and In the morning there is often fog over the lake.. However, from the end of September onwards the evenings will be cool. For a beach day, it’s usually too chilly; a brunch by the fireplace is more suitable.
Winter
A winter wedding is something for couples who like it cozy: a fireplace, thick walls, snow-covered trees. Expect short days, because in December it gets dark around half past five. When it comes to winter weddings, I often recommend a first look in the morning, So that you have your couple photos in daylight.
Photography in Schloss Fuschl: Places, Light and Analog Moments
The most beautiful places for couple photos
For couple photos, there’s no need to travel far at Schloss Fuschl. On the grounds there’s a walkway that leads into the lake. In addition, there’s the lakeside, the terraces with views of the water, the old walls and wooden doors of the castle, and the paths through the forest on the peninsula. Within a few minutes you’ll experience completely different moods. I work quietly on couple photos; I give you rather small prompts than rigid poses and simply let you be with each other. It doesn't take more than 15 to 20 minutes in the Golden Hour for that., And your guests will hardly miss you during this time.
35mm film and Super 8
In addition to digital photography, I offer Analog photography on 35mm film and Super-8 film recordings Especially at Schloss Fuschl, with its connection to the cinema of the 1950s, this fits wonderfully. Super-8 photos of guests in traditional costumes, of a jump from the bridge or the first dance, have a warmth that digital recordings cannot replace. They are not perfect, and that is exactly what makes them alive.
What you get from me
After the wedding, I will first send you a sneak peek gallery. The full gallery with at least 600 to 800 processed images usually follows after three to four weeks. At a three-day wedding with 120 guests, there will be correspondingly more people involved. I work with a second shooter on request for weddings of this size, so that we don’t miss any moments during getting ready, the ceremony, and the party.
My tips for getting married at Schloss Fuschl
Book early
Most of my couples book me nine to twelve months before the wedding, Some even a year and a half to two years in advance. For a sought-after wedding location in Salzburg like Schloss Fuschl, which only offers a limited number of summer wedding weekends, you should inquire even earlier.
Work with an experienced planner
I don't offer wedding planning myself, but I'd be happy to recommend planners from my network. For a multi-day wedding with programs in various locations and many guests arriving, a planner is invaluable. She knows local service providers, coordinates transfers, and ensures that you don’t have to organize anything else on your wedding day.
Plan your day according to the light
Arrange your wedding ceremony so that there is time for the Golden Hour afterwards. Plan ahead, because weddings almost always run later than planned. This is especially true if the wedding takes place outside the hotel and all guests need to be transported.
Keep the family photos short
A list of 25 groups will cost you an hour of your wedding day. Five to eight groups are almost always enough. It is decided by a person who knows the family and who calls the groups together. With 120 guests, this is even more important because otherwise chaos quickly ensues.
Think of your guests
Give your guests all the information in advance: arrival, rooms, dress code for each day, program and instructions such as „traditional costume for the welcome day“ or „swimwear for the beach day“. A wedding website or a PDF with all the information will save you from dozens of questions.
Talk early about privacy
If you don't want your wedding photos to be published, tell your photographer this before booking., Not just after the wedding. You can include this in the contract, and you don’t have to worry about it. For me, one sentence is enough. Also, think about your guests: A friendly note about whether mobile photos can be posted prevents your wedding from appearing in strangers’ Instagram stories the next morning.
For whom a wedding at Schloss Fuschl is not the right choice
As much as I appreciate this location, it doesn't suit every couple.
If you want to celebrate with more than 150 guests, It will get crowded, and the intimate castle atmosphere will be lost. There are more suitable places for very large weddings.
If you are planning on a tight budget, If you’re looking for a luxury experience, the Schloss Fuschl might not be the right choice. Rosewood lists room rates starting at 450 euros per night for event guests, and the catering and extras are also in the luxury segment. There are beautiful, significantly cheaper alternatives in the Salzkammergut.
If you want guaranteed sunshine, You should think about Italy, Mallorca or Greece instead. We were lucky with E & P, but the weather in the Alps remains unpredictable.
And as for me: If you want a photographer who will direct you all day and stage every scene, I probably am not the right person. I work in documentary and editorial photography; I stay in the background and only intervene where it really helps. My images are meant to show you how your day was, not how it should have been.
What couples say about the collaboration
E & P – Rosewood Schloss Fuschl: We couldn’t have asked for a better wedding photographer.
It was important to us not to plan the day down to the smallest detail or to fake any photos. We wanted someone who captures the real moments, and Lisa has done that so professionally.
In advance, we didn’t give them much input due to professional and time constraints. However, Lisa immediately understood us and our style and created exactly the images we wanted in retrospect with incredible creativity and intuition. The preparation and communication with Lisa were as uncomplicated as one could only wish for during the full preparation phase of a wedding as a bride.
During the wedding weekends (Lisa photographed both our civil and church wedding), she was always at the right place at the right time, being pleasant and unobtrusive and full of positive energy. The photos do not seem staged at all; they capture the mood and emotions of the days just as we experienced them. We were also very impressed by how quickly we received our photos.
If you are looking for a photographer who not only takes beautiful photos, but also captures the day with great sensitivity, creativity, and an exceptional eye for aesthetics, we can wholeheartedly recommend Lisa to you. We would choose her again anytime.
Thank you so much, dear Lisa, for your effort, professionalism and warmth.

Do you also officiate weddings in other locations in Austria?
Yes. I live in Bavaria and I accompany weddings throughout Austria, as well as in Italy, Switzerland, Mallorca, Greece and Great Britain. If I am not available on your date, I can offer you an accompaniment by my team.
Conclusion: Getting married at Schloss Fuschl
The Rosewood Schloss Fuschl is a wedding location near Salzburg for couples who want to combine history, nature and true luxury, Without having to travel to the other end of the world. A hunting castle from the 15th century on a small peninsula, a clear mountain lake right on the doorstep, the Salzkammergut region all around and Salzburg just a half-hour away: There is hardly anything more one could wish for for a wedding.
The wedding of E & P showed what is possible here. A welcome day in traditional costume, a getting ready in the Kaiser-Franz-Joseph-Suite, a wedding in the church, a celebration with 120 guests and a beach day on the lake, all within three days and in a place that nevertheless never felt overcrowded. For me, it was one of those weddings where everything came together: the location, the weather, the planning and, above all, the people.
What I take away from these three days is a few things that I would like to share with you for your own planning. A wedding at Schloss Fuschl works best if you see it as a weekend and not just as a single day. Your guests are traveling anyway, and a welcome day or a relaxing final day on the lake turns a wedding into a shared experience that everyone remembers years later. Plan your schedule based on the light and not the clock; when you get married outside the hotel, factor in generous buffer periods and hire an experienced planner to help you with many guests and multiple locations. Without Daniela Kainz, the E&P wedding would not have gone so relaxed.
At the same time, getting married at Schloss Fuschl isn’t the right choice for every couple. If you want to celebrate with significantly more than 150 guests, you have a tight budget, or you want a wedding day with guaranteed sunshine, there are better places for you. And if you want a photographer who will stage every scene and direct you throughout the entire day, I’m not the right fit for you. I work in a documentary style, staying in the background and telling your day as it really was.
What you get from me in return is experience from over 100 weddings all over Europe and beyond, a calm eye for the moments between the big event moments and, on request, analogue images on 35mm film, Super-8 footage and aerial photos with the drone. And you get discretion. If your wedding is to remain private, it will remain private. We include this in the contract before the wedding, and I adhere to it without exception.
If you are currently considering getting married at Schloss Fuschl or at another wedding location near Salzburg and are looking for a wedding photographer for Salzburg and the Salzkammergut region, I would be happy to hear from you. Tell me about your plans, your date, your approximate number of guests, and what is most important to you about your wedding. For summer weekends, I recommend requesting at least nine to twelve months in advance., Because the popular dates at the castle are booked up quickly. If we are a good match, we will talk in a video call in private about your wishes and how I can help you plan your wedding.
