End of August 2025. Hot late summer, the light as intense as it is on only a few days of the year. A multi-day wedding on Lake Garda, which began the evening before with a relaxed welcome dinner directly on the lakeshore \u2013 and on the wedding day itself became one of the most extraordinary celebrations I've had the privilege to photograph. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Villa Bettoni on Lake Garda \u2014 a place of history<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Before this day can be told, the place must be understood. For a wedding at Villa Bettoni is not a wedding at a venue that opens itself up to events. It is a wedding in a living piece of history \u2013 and that is a fundamental difference to any other wedding on Lake Garda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Villa Bettoni <\/a>is located in Bogliaco, a small district of the municipality of Gargnano on the western shore of Lake Garda. Directly on the Gardesana Occidentale, right on the water, nestled between the foothills of the Alps and the shore of the lake \u2014 the historic home of the Counts of Bettoni, where descendants of the family still reside today. Due to their close relationship with the Habsburg imperial family, the Bettoni family was granted the hereditary title of count by Empress Maria Theresa in 1752.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the centuries, Villa Bettoni on Lake Garda has hosted significant personalities: Napoleon Bonaparte \u2013 whose bedroom is preserved \u2013 Victor Hugo, Pietro Mascagni and Giacomo Puccini were among the guests of this extraordinary residence. And during the Italian Social Republic, the villa was the seat of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of the government led by Mussolini from October 1943 to April 1945 \u2013 the most important institutional building of the so-called \u201eRepublic of Sal\u00f2\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Marshal's Room displays paintings of famous one-eyed warlords, a direct reference to Marshal Gian Antonio Bettoni, who lost an eye in the Seven Years' War.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guests from different countries, some meeting for the first time, shared a dinner overlooking the lake and the mountains beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That's precisely what makes multi-day luxury weddings on Lake Garda so powerful: this first evening builds a community before the actual wedding day begins. The morning of the wedding day began in two completely different locations. He was getting ready with his two best friends in a small villa nearby \u2013 no fuss, no big entourage. She was getting ready at the Grand Hotel Fasano \u2013 one of the most reputable luxury hotels on Lake Garda, right on the water, with historic interiors, antique mirrors, and a light that seemed to create pictures almost by itself. With her closest friends and her mother. The mood: boisterous, full of anticipation for the wedding on Lake Garda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She wore two dresses that day: the first, perfectly in keeping with the overall concept of the Villa Bettoni wedding. The second\u2014for the party\u2014was shorter, more relaxed, with an energy that contrasted with the first dress like evening contrasts with morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the ceremony at Villa Bettoni, guests were invited into the Baroque garden across the road. What set the party mood from the start was a walking band featuring a saxophonist. The saxophonist, mingling amongst the guests, between aperitif glasses and congratulations on the garden steps of Villa Bettoni \u2013 this created an energy that carried the entire evening.
